About The Author
Toby Andrew is a fantasy author drawn to stories of fractured worlds, moral ambiguity, hard choices, and the lengths people will go to simply to survive. His work explores how power shapes individuals and societies alike – how it is wielded, abused, justified, and endured – and what happens when ordinary people are forced into impossible decisions.
Influenced by a lineage of fantasy that has grown darker and more complex over time – from the mythic foundations of J.R.R. Tolkien and Terry Brooks, through the heroic grit of David Gemmell, to the brutal realism of George R.R. Martin, Joe Abercrombie, and John Gwynne – his stories lean into the modern grimdark tradition, where survival often comes at a cost, and no choice is ever clean.
What He Writes
Toby Andrew writes epic and grimdark fantasy shaped by political tension, ancient prophecy, and deeply personal conflict. His series The Chronicles of Meri’Dimion explores worlds where belief is weaponised, loyalty is tested, and survival often demands compromise.
These stories favour consequence over comfort. Victories are costly, choices leave scars, and heroism is rarely clean. The saviour is not always a crowned king or a knight on a white horse, but more often an ordinary person who acts at the precise moment it matters – regardless of the personal cost.
The Chronicles of Meri’Dimion
The Chronicles of Meri’Dimion began as an exploration of what happens when a catastrophe long buried returns to the present – and how it fractures people at every level of society, from kings and queens to stablehands and cooks.
For more than two thousand years, the island of Meri’Dimion endured in secret, hidden behind ancient magic and a living reef designed to keep an old darkness at bay. Over time, the truth faded. Fear softened into faith, faith into tradition, and tradition into stories few still believed.
When an earthquake shatters the reef and unravels the spell bound within it, the past does not return quietly. It arrives without mercy, indifferent to belief or denial, and brings with it enemies that no longer live in myth.
What began as a single story grew too vast to be contained within one volume. The result is a multi-book saga that unfolds over time – not as a tale of salvation, but as a chronicle of endurance, sacrifice, and the cost of surviving a world that was never meant to be found.
